Description

The bleached white weather station and slopes of Mont Ventoux are truly iconic and with its three different ascents it is a challenging day on the bike.  The foothills of Ventoux also provide additional rich riding with quite possible the Nesque Gorges from Sault one of the best rides in the world.

Sandwiched between Chalet Reynard and the summit of Mont Ventoux is also the memorial to Tommy Simpson who sadly died on the climb while challenging for the Tour de France yellow jersey in 1967.

This map shows the main cycling climbs and route network around Mont Ventoux in the Vaucluse region of southern France, designed for road cyclists planning rides in the area.

At the center is Mont Ventoux at about 1,910–1,912 m, with its three legendary ascents:

  • From Bédoin: 21.8 km with +1,598 m of climbing — the hardest and most famous side.

  • From Malaucène: 21.0 km with +1,575 m — more irregular, steep in parts, and very demanding.

  • From Sault: 25.6 km with +1,210 m — longer but more gradual and beginner-friendly.

Key landmarks on the mountain are shown:

  • Chalet Reynard

  • Col des Tempêtes

  • Tom Simpson Memorial

Around Ventoux, the map highlights a dense network of secondary cols that make the region ideal for loop rides:

  • The Gorges de la Nesque from Villes-sur-Auzon, one of the most scenic approaches.

  • Col de Murs, Col des Trois Termes, Col de la Madeleine.

  • Col d’Aulan, Col de Macuègne, Col du Négron, Col de l’Homme.

  • Col de Fontaube, Col de Suzette, Col des Aires, and many others.

Each climb includes:

  • Its altitude,

  • A difficulty category (1 to 4 or HC),

  • Its position for linking routes together.

The map also shows good base towns for cyclists:
Bédoin, Malaucène, Sault, Vaison-la-Romaine, Carpentras, Mazan, Aurel, and Brantes.

Overall, the map is a planning tool for building everything from a single Ventoux ascent to full-day mountain loops combining Ventoux with the surrounding Provençal climbs.
