Étape du Tour 2027 Accommodation: I Rode The Climbs, And Solved The Logistics

I’ve just ridden the climbs of the L’Étape du Tour 2027 in glorious weather, and the big takeaway is that the logistics are the real challenge, so I’ve sorted the L’Etape du Tour accommodation in Crest-Voland that takes the hassle away.

The riding is tough but straightforward. It’s shorter and lower than last year, with climbs that are short and steep. At the end of October 2026 just after the route was announced I rode all the climbs except for the already closed Col de la Colombiere.

The problem is the geography. The race starts in Cluses and finishes at Les Saisies, about 50 km apart. French write-ups say you either sleep in Cluses and work out how to get back at night, or sleep in Sallanches and ride about 52 km home after 154 km and 4,850 m. The Les Saisies tourist office also says access on race day will be very heavily restricted, with parking and shuttles still to come.

My solution

A large chalet apartment in Crest-Voland, at the foot of Les Saisies off the race route and about 8 km downhill from the finish. Cross the line, ride down to your bed. I’m staying with you, and the package includes:

  • Breakfast and dinner every day
  • A shakedown ride up the Montée de Bisanne
  • Your race number collection and a drive of most of the route
  • A drive with your bikes to the start line on race day
  • Optional Geneva transfers, and bike hire for guests

Places are limited to the beds in the chalet.
