Vintage Bike Restoration Challenge: Help Me Bring These Bikes Back to Life!

I’ve embarked on a very exciting and, quite frankly, challenging project: restoring two vintage bikes that I recently discovered in a barn in Normandy. These bikes are in rough shape, but I’m determined to bring them back to life for the Anjou Vélo Vintage festival in June! The twist? I’ve got just 6 weeks to get them ready, and I need your help.
The Bikes
The first bike looks like it could be from the 1930s, and the second one seems to be from around the 1960s. While I’m excited to tackle the restoration, I’m not entirely sure about the exact age or make of these bikes. That’s where I’m hoping some of you – bike aficionados, vintage lovers, or anyone with restoration experience – can lend a hand.

The Restoration Process
The challenge I’m facing is deciding whether I should go for a full restoration, where I strip the bikes down and rebuild them completely, or if I should simply clean them up, preserve the rust, and maintain their vintage charm. It’s a fine balance, and I’d love your input. Should I focus on making them look brand new, or should I embrace their history and the years of wear and tear?
I’ve already started the project, and I’ll be documenting the entire process in a YouTube series. Every week, I’ll be sharing progress updates, tips, and challenges that come with restoring these classic bikes. It’s all part of my journey to the festival, and I’d love for you to follow along and offer your advice.
What I Need From You
Here’s where you come in:
- Can you help me identify the bikes? I’m guessing one is from the 1930s, and the other could be from the 1960s, but any insight you have on their make or model would be much appreciated.
- What would you do? Full restoration or a simple cleanup? If you’ve worked on vintage bikes before, I’d love to hear your tips and tricks.
- Restoration recommendations? What tools, parts, or methods would you recommend for a project like this? Any specific things I should watch out for?

Why I’m Doing This
The Anjou Vélo Vintage festival is an annual event in the Loire Valley where cyclists gather to celebrate old bikes. It’s a fantastic way to embrace cycling history, and I’m thrilled to be taking part. The goal is to get these bikes in shape and ride them around the beautiful vineyards of the Loire, soaking in the history and enjoying the countryside.
I’m documenting the entire process because, as always, I love sharing my adventures and learning from others. I’d really appreciate your thoughts and feedback as I go along – especially with something like this where it’s easy to get overwhelmed with decisions!
Follow the Journey
I’ll be updating my YouTube channel weekly, sharing behind-the-scenes moments, restoration steps, and challenges as they arise. Subscribe to my channel and hit the notification bell to make sure you don’t miss an update.

Final Thoughts
This restoration project is as much about preserving history as it is about pushing myself to learn something new. With your help, I’m confident I can get these bikes ready for the Anjou Vélo Vintage festival. Thanks in advance for your support and expertise, and I hope you enjoy following the journey!
