Traditional French Town House in Bourg d′Oisans

Property Overview

Our charming town house is as you would expect, just a minutes walk from the centre of the town. The house has been renovated to provide all modern comforts including free WiFi access but has retained its character with and wooden floors and beams. The kitchen dining area is well equipped with oven, hob, fridge/freezer, microwave and all the usual things you need to cater during your stay and includes a washing machine.

There is a spacious living area with sofa and chairs, wood burning stove, and a selection of books, magazines, games and TV with UK freesat. The house has three large bedrooms, all with ensuite shower rooms, which have been designed to give you plenty of space. We have limited the number of beds, all singles, in each of the rooms and we do not have any bunks, two of our bedrooms are triples with three single beds, and one a twin has two single beds. We can therefore sleep up to 8 guests. Depending upon the size of your group we can open up and lock off bedrooms and reduce the price if fewer bedrooms are taken.

The house also has a secure bike garage for the safe storage of your bikes and other sports equipment.

Property Reviews

Justin 11/09/2017

Dear Helen and Phil, Our holiday was a fantastic success. The accommodation was terrific and the location excellent. All seven of us really enjoyed the village and - of course - the cycling. We’ll definitely be coming back Best, Justin

Helen and Phil, Anne and I very much enjoyed our stay and are already looking forward to next year! One thing new from our last stay was the addition of the satellite tv-we found that an enjoyable way to relax in the evening. I don′t know if it′s a French thing but the floor broom was not great. It requires a lot of work to get the floors swept daily. It′s a small thing but frustrating nevertheless. I really like the bike rack in the front. That is a great add since our last visit. Barry and Anne

Dear Helen and Phil, Once again your accommodation met our expectations, as you know this is the third time we have rented this property from you this should say it all. A welcome addition was the T.V. and sofa bed so that parents and children could watch kids programmes early in the morning. Thank you for your quick return of the deposit. Once again many thanks Barbara

I just want to say thanks! We had a great time, and the house was perfect for our group. It really exceeded our expectations. I wish you all the best and I will certainly recommend you to people I meet.

For the 4th year in a row I stayed here with a large group of cyclists. The chalet is ideal for storing the bikes (garage), has 3 showers, 3 toilets, a big kitchen with a large tablesetting, a seperate livingroom and normal (not bunk) beds. It is very quiet, free parking within 50 meters and 100 meter from the center of the village. On top of that the owners, especially Phil, provide the best service as it comes to biking in the area (guide is possible) and also when it comes to bikers stuff (PROMPT.CC SHOP). Phil showed us some really amazing routes which were sometimes 'linkable' with the well known ones like Alpe d'Huez. On top of that they fixed my bike quickly when I had some problems so I didn't miss a day of riding on my bike (otherwise I would have rented one at PROMPT.CC). Thank you Helen and Phil for all and hope to come back in the next years,

lovely warm comfortable house clean and well equipped for our family of 5 adults 2 boisterous children and 1 baby we even entertained our friends and their 2 children one evening. The washing machine was a great bonus Helen and Phil were very tolerant of our noisy family and on hand for any help we required. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would recommend the house and the area to others. We were able to access ski areas, huge supermarket and small local shops easily from the house and hopefully will return for more skiing in future years many thanks Barbara and family

Lovely and warm with lots of hot water for showers after a hard day out climbing. No real need for the woodburning stove but it made the place feel very cosy. Would have been a bit crowded downstairs with 8 people but was fine with the 6 we had for one evening meal when we invited 2 friends round. Sounds like the planned improvements will mean lots more space downstairs for 8. Front bedroom was very light at night due to streetlights, maybe blackout curtains would help for anyone who is a light sleeper. However overall very impressive with great hospitality from Phil and Helen

our stay was enjoyable and had all we needed. apart from enough hot water for showers so we ended up using other means. also would be good to have some decent sized cloth storage areas such as wardrobes. we would defiantly use the house again for our next visit!

The tour of fools 2012 members used the house for one week in August and found it ideal for the requirements of six cyclists visiting the region for the first time with the aim of ticking off multiple Cols . The location of the town, and of the house within the town is excellent. Our first jaunt found us climbing Alpe DHuez within 5min of leaving the house. The house is warm and dry with adequate food storage, preparation and consumption areas for a house full of hungry cyclists. For post food wind-down there is also a spacious lounge area that is bigger than the pictures would suggest with lots of cycling magazines and coffee table books to mull over if you have time during your stay. Bedrooms are large and comfortable, all with bathrooms and lots of windows for fresh air. If lacking in the necessary surface areas required when living out of a suitcase there were hanging facilities. But in balance, there is a bike workshop with all necessary tools for maintenance and repairs for Campag and Shimano. Along with plenty of bike shops that are in general cheaper than those in the UK (eg: Swiss-Stop Yellow King pads for 20% cheaper) The house itself sits off a quiet road in the town where the front lends itself to becoming a nice suntrap to lounge in, drink coffee and adore your bike in the sunshine, whilst waiting for the temperature to rise before bouncing up a Col or two. The owners, Helen and Phil leave you to it but are on hand if you need them and were very helpful with their local knowledge. If you fancy a warm up, it is well worth the ride from Grenoble or Lyon train station, a more fitting way to arrive in the Alps for a cycling holiday than by taxi, climbing up into the mountains is spectacular if not a little tough with a pack. All in all we scored the accommodation at 94%.

Excellent house, in a perfect location. Everything was clearly thought out to facilitate cyclists, including a work stand and tools in the garage. The house was comfortable, clean and well-equipped. We would have no hesitation in recommending the house to friends in the future - it was ideal for our needs..
