Tour Reviews

Andy 28/10/2019

Hi Helen, Phil, and Henry. I can′t thank you enough for the wonderful week I spent with you and the other guests in August. The location, bike hire, general organisation, everything in fact, was first class. I was quite apprehensive about the trip due mainly to my limited cycling ability and the very high mountains! I needn′t have worried however, everyone was so positive and supportive that I felt I could do anything. Anyone thinking about doing this kind of trip who shares my concerns shouldn′t worry, they should book it and they will have a great time. I look back on that week as one of the best things I′ve ever done where I achieved things I didn′t think I could. Thanks again Helen, Phil and Henry. Regards, Andy

Dear Helen, Sincerest thanks for arranging superb cycling package and for being a wonderful host. All ran like clock work from the well maintained rental bike thru the daily supported rides. I had a time of my life and definitely brought home memories of those trophy climbs. I definitely will come back to check out the other holiday package and add on to my cycling bucket list. Hats off to More than 21 Bends.

Hi Helen & Phil Only getting around to dropping you a quick line now to say thanks again for a brilliant week. Everything was first class from the welcome and accommodation to the great breakfasts and excellent bike hire. Have to give Henry 10/10 as a guide also - he was great throughout the week and managed everyone’s requirements perfectly in a group of mixed abilities. Please pass on my thanks to him. I had a great time and will definitely return and have already recommended you to friends. Sincere thanks again folks and will see you next April in Flanders, Phil. All the best Mark

Helen / Phil, What can i say...this being a return visit... "The accommodation and hospitality afforded myself and my brother is second to none"....from the simple "Good Morning" to the "How did your bike ride go" ....never mind the "First Aid Assistance"...having departed the bike on the decent of Alpe D′heuz, we both felt very much a part of the family never mind guests of yourselves... I will once again be looking to book with yourself in Aug / Sept 19.... Regards John Hill

This was the best week I have ever had. 12 months in the planning I was nervous and anxious about tackling the classic rides. Although an experienced triathlete and rider within the UK- The Alps presented a new challenge -Alp d′Huez, Col du Sarenne, Galibier, Crois de Fer, Ventoux....I liked the idea of a max group size of 8. We did not know each other but we were well matched. There is not a single aspect of the week that was not outstanding-Helen and Phil really supportive and encouraging. Lots of advice, help and guidance both with rides and social arrangements. Bikes hired great vfm. Support on the rides brilliant, breakfast and lunches always welcome :) Am so pleased I booked with More Than 21 Bends-even got the T-shirt. If you book this or any tour you will have a memorable time. Thoroughly recommend-excellent accommodation, food, support and value. Thank you for everything. Mike McCann

Hi Phil, Helen and Gayle, Thank you very much for a wonderful week′s cycling holiday. I had a wonderful time with a great bunch of people. Before the tour started I was a bit apprehensive about my ability to keep up with the group, but I needn′t have worried. Regarding feedback, I can′t praise Pierre enough. He was a thoroughly brilliant leader for this kind of trip. He was supportive, friendly, insightful and was always around checking on us and helping (and) gave me the confidence to try and ride the Col du Telegraphe and Col du Galibier in the same day, which is something that I was extremely grateful for. Amy′s breakfasts were great as was her friendly greeting and smile first thing in a morning. Like Pierre she is a great asset. My accommodation in both Bourg and in Sault was great! Phil, thank you for looking at my bike for me on the first day - much appreciated. I just wish I′d had more time to have more of a chat with you. To finish, this was our third holiday in Bourg d′Oisans...and definitely the most enjoyable. The MT21B′s experience was very impressive and congratulations for building a great business. Regards, Garth

Our group of 10 US and Aussies had an incredible trip with MT21B climbing the classic TDF cols + Ventoux - an itinerary that covers so much in a week. Everyday was a highlight and made easy by their 5 star guide Pierre who speaks fluent English and French. Aside from all the classic climbs, we really enjoyed the Chateuaneuf du Pape lunch day and the Ventoux descent into Sault and the Nesque Gorge. No one wanted to come home.

Michael 22/08/2017

Everything went great and having Pierre as our guide for the supported rides was brilliant. He did an outstanding job. We had perfect weather and would highly recommend any cyclist to put this on their list of must do’s.

Mark 22/08/2017

I would like to thank all the team for making the weeks stay so enjoyable. Phil, Pierre, Joe, Helen, Amy, Gayle From the accommodation and breakfast to the bike rental to the guided tours everything was organised brilliantly. I really appreciate all the hard work in making sure the week was so successful for all members of the tour. Adrian

Wayne 20/10/2015

Hi Helen and Phil, Sorry it has taken so long to respond. I wanted to thank both of you for a very enjoyable week at the base of Alpe D′Huez. I really enjoyed staying so close to most of the rides we did, and being with a group of great guys. I wish I had been fitter, but after another three weeks in Italy it was coming back. Helen, thanks for the full breakfast each morning. Definitely needed for each day′s ride. I also want to thank you, Phil, for helping with the headset problem I had. It kept loosening on me in Italy but after getting the diagram from Time USA when I got back home everything worked out fine. Others have obviously had the same problem because they had a whole series of hand drawn diagrams readily available. Hopefully I will see you guys again some time in the future. I have recommended Morethan21bends to a number of people here but the typical response is "why would I want to torture myself in the mountains". I think that is an initial response but once they see photos they show more interest. South Africans are likely more up to the challenge. I will pass on my good experience to some friends when I am there in December. Best regards, Wayne

Finally arrived back in OZ over the weekend after some great (albeit chilly) cycling in Italy. Just wanted to get back to you to thank you both for an amazing week with M21B in Oisans. I had the best time. The risk when you have had something on your wish-list for so long, is that you build it up so much in your mind that when you finally get there, it’s a disappointment. Well I can tell you that our week was even better than I had ever imagined. My only complaint is that it wasn’t 4 weeks! Thanks for showing us your Oisans and for looking after us, especially the bike rack. It made Wayne and my trip around Italy a breeze. The only suggestion I could add is that on the first day/night we could have had a bit more of a formal introduction to everyone on the tour, so that we all got to know each-other a little bit earlier. But honestly that’s a minor; by the end of the first days riding we were all giving Duncan heaps about his consumption of bars and gels, and all getting along famously.

Steve Dent 09/09/2014

For the 2nd successive year I had brilliant week with Morethan21bends. The rides were fantastic, the highlight of the week being the ascent of Mont Ventoux and the weather superb. The support on the rides from Phil and Theo was top quality. Friendly and supportive, always allowing for different abilities in the group and providing encouragement as we made our way up the climbs and congratulations at the top. The Morethan21bends house was a perfect base for exploring the area either on a bike or on foot and provided comfortable accommodation with a filling breakfast before heading out to take on the cols. I highly recommend morethan21bends to anyone looking for great riding in the Alps from well located base in Bourg d’Oisans. I will definitely be back again in the future.

Clare Nash 27/06/2014

Thank you for hosting me on your tour. I absolutely loved it!! The daily rides were amazing and the scenery made the challenging mountain climbing so worth it. The house we stayed in was great, the views stunning. The bed was very comfortable and snuggly for a tired body at the end of the day. Hattie's scrambled eggs were delicious in the mornings. The hire bike was a great bike, fitted perfectly and was very sturdy whizzing down the mountains. Great relief when coming half way across the world and relying on a hire bike.....I would recommend people to leave the hassles of bringing bikes overseas at home and hire one of these bikes. My only suggestion would be, that maybe there needs to be a meet and greet on the day that everyone arrives for the tour. That way everyone gets to meet each other, and you get to lay the foundations of your expectations for the week etc. Once again, thanks for the most amazing riding week!!

Luke Coleman 24/06/2014

We had a fantastic time staying with Morethan21bends in Bourg D'Oisans. All members of the team were helpful and knowledgable. We travelled down to Ride Mont Ventoux which was a well planned trip and also had to be rescued on the Galibier when a big storm set in and it began to snow! The house we stayed in was a great size with good facilities to store bikes and a great shower with plenty of hot water! We will definatley be returning to use Morethan21bends services for our Cycling Club Trip in 2015

Peter Freeman 12/07/2011

The Alpe d’Huez /Mt Ventoux week was one of the best things I’ve ever done. Phil was very flexible and accommodated a range of standards of riders, reminding us often that we were on a holiday not a race. It was an amazing feeling to be riding on such famous cycling roads with so much history. It’s a great option for riding enthusiasts who are also interested in taking in the surrounds. The one bedroom apartment was a great option for my wife and I as she isn’t a rider and enjoyed the village while i was cycling. I cant wait to do another tour. Thanks Phil and Helen.

Steve Cook 06/06/2011

My wife Connie and Thouroughly enjoyed our stay with the 21 bends group. The food was excellent, and plentiful. The surroundings were clean and bright, the town is lovely. Phil came up with some excellent rides for us. He was flexible, and casual, while he still got the job done. Pace is never a problem, when we were slow, it simple didn’t matter, lots of time to take pictures, and enjoy our surroundings. Many thanks to Phil and Helen for a job well done.
